Robert Griffin III spoke with the media for about thirty minutes here at Redskins Park on Wednesday. It was the last time he will speak until Monday, after Washington has completed the fourth full team practice of training camp 2012.
Among the gems, as transcribed and posted to twitter by our Washington Times/ESPN 980 Redskins Insider, Rich Campbell.
1. Griffin III on his fame & teammates: "I think that persona of “RG3,” as far as a fan, it’s not the same feeling for these guys in the locker room."
2. Griffin III on "If it wasn’t good, I’d have definitely felt it in the locker room. ...I think they rubbed the team the right way"
3. Griffin III on Osi Umenyiora's comments and calling him Bob Griffin: "That's Osi for you. Nobody really calls me Bob, but if he wants to call me Bob, that's fine."
Here's one (my favorite) as transcribed by Don Banks of Sports Illustrated
4. Griffin III on being franchise's face: "There's really no true face of a franchise, because if we all just had faces, we'd all be dead.''
***As ESPN 980 first reported, the Redskins waived offensive tackle Nevin McCaskill, and signed rookie RB Dorson Boyce out of the University of Washington. Boyce played with Chris Polk, who the Redskins had a lot of interest in, and who ultimately chose the Eagles over Washington as a undrafted free agent, so the scheme fit makes sense.
**Also, as expected - the Redskins were awarded the rights to CB Chase Minnifield, who officially goes on Injured reserve, after being waived/injured yesterday and clearing league wide waivers. Minnifield suffered another injury to his surgically repaired knee (micro fracture).
**Earlier in the day, ESPN 980 was first to report that SS Brandon Meriweather's DUI case had been finalized. Meriweather pleaded no-contest, and he was found guilty, per Arlington County records and media relations officer, Dustin Sternbeck.
Meriweather received a 180-day suspended jail sentence, so he will not serve any time. His driving priviledges were suspended for 60 days, along with a $300 fine. Also, as Rich Campbell pointed out - and the most important item, his charge was amended to a reckless driving, as opposed to a DUI.
The Redskins practice at 3 PM here at Redskins Park on Thursday, which is open to the public. The team will also hold a closed morning walk-through.
